Potions

Potions are, as the name would suggest, drinkable liquids found in glass bottles or vials.

When unidentified, potions will generally be described by reference to their appearance, particularly colour. These descriptions are consistent (within one game; they are randomly assigned for each new game), so, for example, if you find a Red Potion, it will be the same as any other Red Potion - but not the same as a Sparkling Red or Bright Red Potion.

Potions have an effect on the drinker; this may be temporary or permanent, and may be either good or bad. Potions come in single doses; drinking one uses it up.

Potions can be found at any level of Angband from level 1 downwards. While on the early levels, beneficial potions are likely to be among the weaker potions, but harmful potions can be both powerful and permanent, so drinking unidentified potions is unwise.

Among the types of potion that may be found are healing and curing potions, potions that affect characteristics (positively or negatively), and potions that can temporarily enhance the drinker's fighting abilities.

Using a Potion

To drink a potion, use the 'q' command (for 'quaff'). If you have more than one potion available to choose from, you will need to select the correct one. The effects of unknown potions will be immediately apparent...
